History of the Roundtable
The Roundtable was established in 1997, and held its inaugural event to analyze certain decisions of the then relatively new Brazilian antitrust agency. The Roundtable’s analysis proved decisive in securing a change in the approach to those decisions involving beer suppliers, Anheuser-Busch and Miller into the Brazilian market. Subsequently between 1997 and 2007, the Roundtable held eight (8) Latin American Competition Roundtables focusing on many of the different issues set out below. The Roundtable started its work in Asia beginning in 2005, and has now held two South East Asian Competition Roundtables, as well as focused discussions in China, Japan, and India. The Roundtable’s Chairman, Shanker Singham, who also leads Squire Sanders & Dempsey’s market access group has been a Non-Government Advisor (NGA) for the International Competition Network’s annual meeting every year since 2003. The Roundtable has participated as a major speaker in ICN meetings in 2005, 2006 and 2008.
